Subtraction Practice PagesPartial-Sums Process
Students begin using partial-sums at the end of Lesson 4 (usually sometime in December). Students will need to show their work on their homework assignments and assessments once they learn this process.
The "old" way vs. the "new" way of addition and subtraction.
The link below has two videos. The top video shows the carrying method (old way) of addition and then the new way (partial-sums). It continues by showing the borrowing method (old way) of subtraction followed by the new way (trade-first). Your second grader is learning the "new" way. Please use these videos to assist your understanding when working with your child on their homework. The videos would also be appropriate for your second grader to watch.
